Out of the Box – Review

Winner of ‘Best Family Friendly Show’ at Brighton Fringe 2025 and described as ‘a show packed with surprises’, this one man comedy show did not disappoint.

Darryl J. Carrington kept us entertained with a large box centre stage. Each time the box was opened, there was a different surprise for us all, which he would then have to include in his act. Everyday objects were produced to give huge laughter and entertainment.

The children and adults were totally engaged throughout. Carrington has a lovely connection and warmth with the audience and uses several members of the crowd to join him on stage throughout. Some very funny moments include making a cup of tea using objects on volunteer’s heads and getting two adults to help with a masterful juggling routine. A finale using toothbrushes was simply hilarious and a fabulous, crazy ending to a zany show.

Carrington coped well with the low ceiling in this intimate room, especially for his juggling skills. A shame on occasion his non-verbal clown used some speech but this is a solid, sweet show for all ages which kept us engrossed for the full hour.
