The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has a great mix of talent, some new, some just finding their way and what an honour to have The Black Blues Brothers returning for their fifth season with their new show, “Let’s Twist Again” to a sold out audience.
This spectacular show is a true delight for all the family. Set in the magnificent McEwan Hall, the show’s story begins at a train station, slowly setting the scene with smoky haze filling the stage. There’s not long to wait until the five Kenyan performers are displaying amazing acrobatic stunts, somersaults, human pyramids, leaping through hoops and some fabulous skipping rope skills to absolutely wow the audience. The beautiful set was used imaginatively with railway crossing barriers becoming limbo poles and train station chairs and tables used to perform daring stunts.
The cast’s skills are simply faultless and it’s no wonder that they have performed at countless prestigious venues and shows including The Royal Variety Show. They play with comedy throughout their routine and even use a member of the audience to go on stage to woo her as part of their storyline.
The artistes are constantly showing different acrobatics throughout the show to Rock and Roll music of Glenn Miller, Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley keeping the audience entertained throughout.
The storyline may have been slightly lost at times but understandably a through line was needed in the show to give the performers a break from their strenuous physical movements and to create a story throughout rather than just an hour of circus and acrobatics.
A very impressive, polished show that kept the audience enthralled throughout. I could watch it time and time again. A highlight of the Fringe, not to be missed.
