If someone asked me to turn a group of 40-50 strangers into a community of love, joy and happiness, I wouldn’t know where to start, but somehow ‘House of Life‘ has encapsulated this in their wonderful ‘Revelation’.
I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I walked into theatre, which is sometimes the best way to see a new show. I was overwhelmed with how exuberant and outstanding the show was. I have never seen a performance like it, nor have I considered this style could be created in a theatrical space.
Both Ben and Trevor have an exceptional sense of stage presence and an amazing quick-witted comedic approach, which makes the show more exhilarating. Observing their interaction and song improvisation, curated from what the audience says is joyous. Noteworthy was Ben’s freestyle rap, based on the audience’s hopes and dreams – this absolutely blew my mind, I am in awe of his off-the-cusp creativity.
The majority of the musical soundtrack was created there and then using a loop device, faultlessly showcasing the sheer genius of these two performers.
I’d transformed by the time I left the theatre and that’s exactly what brilliant theatre does. This transformation stuck with me, making me look at how I treat others and my outlook on life. House of Life have set out on a mission to radiate to the Uk radiate and following it’s 5 start run in Edinburgh fringe I have no doubt it’ll continue on its path at the soho theatre. I highly recommend anyone who gets the opportunity to see it… GO!
I was left wishing the audience had more clarity on the narrative in some sections, for example some of the narrative and didn’t feel very clear to me and in those moments I lost the story a little, particularly nearer the end, but on the whole, it was joyous and this quickly slipped my mind.
What a beautiful, inspiring show that really has added more happiness into my life and shifted the way that I see the world and the people I share it with.
