For two concert performances only, Andrew Lloyd Webbers’s Tony Award®-winning masterpiece Sunset Boulevard comes to the recently refurbished Alexandra Palace Theatre on Sunday 25th October. The concert will play a 3pm & 6.30pm performance to a socially distanced audience of 300 at each concert.
The musical is based on Billy Winder’s legendary film with book and lyrics by Don Black & Christopher Hampton.
These special socially-distanced concert performances star Mazz Murray as Norma Desmond and Kayi Ushe as Joe Gillis.
The cast also features Laura Baldwin (Betty Schaefer), Alex Bourne (Max von Mayerling), Sharif Afifi (Artie Green), Chris Howell (Manfred/Sheldrake) & David Shaw-Parker (Cecil B. DeMille).
Completing the company are Jack Harrison-Cooper, Jordan Lee Davies, Chloe Hart, Aimee Hodnett, Claudia Kariuki, Sejal Keshwala, Anelisa Lamola, Evie Rose Lane, Tom Partridge, Cameron Sharp & Bleu Woodward.
In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded, silent-screen goddess, Norma Desmond, lives in a fantasy world. Impoverished screen writer, Joe Gillis, on the run from debt collectors, stumbling into her reclusive world. Persuaded to work on a script that she believes will put her back in front
of the cameras, he is seduced by her life-style. Joe becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic world until his love for another woman leads him to break free with dramatic consequences.
The concerts will feature a 24- piece socially-distanced orchestra playing David Cullen & Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original orchestrations. After recently collaborating on A Little Night Music at Holland Park, the concerts are directed by Alistair Knights and conducted by Alex Parker. It will feature a sound design by Paul Smith.
